Metformin Pils

Hi friends,

How does the metformin pils (taken for diabetis) effect an unborn baby?
taking metformin pils while you never know that you are pregnant, does it course serious problem?
plz advise me!!!

I have been on the pills at the beginning of each of my pregnancies and as soon as we found out they switch me to insulin. Two boys and no known side affects or problems. I think it is more a precaution to take the mother off of metiformin because my doc says it has not been proven not to cause problems in unborn babies but he has yet to see a complication from taking it in early pregnancy.

I am very gunshy of all prescription meds for pregnancies, but Metformin has been used worldwide with no significant adverse effects reported.

To reassure yourself contact the United States FDA. There is one person responsible for every drug. Find out who is responsible for regulating Metformin, contact them, and ask them the question.

In my experience they have been extremely helpful in answering such questions.
