To make a long story short, in Jan of this year we switched me to Armour which is not a synthetic...has active thyroid hormone in it. At the time, I assumed the test for my glucose (179) was because I'd forgotten it was suppose to be fasting and had drank 1/4 cup of coffee with 2 teas of sugar in it, before taking my labs, that morning.
Three months after I started taking Armour, my feet were swelling. My dr gave me a 10 day prescription for diuretics and it improved but did not go away. Three months later, we did another metabolic panel and my glucose was 319! When she did the 3mo average test...it had been over 300 for at least 3 mos. After finding this out, I discontinued the thyroid meds but did NOT start taking any of the meds to bring my glucose down. I tested again 18 days after my last labs and it had dropped 25 points and I'd lost 11 pounds. Since it was still 294, needless to say, I started taking the meds to bring it down!
Unfortunately, it apparently did permanent damage as now, I can not keep my glucose under control without meds (even though I'm not on thyroid meds). We recently tried a very low dose of Armour again...in 8 days I gained 5 lbs, so I discontinued the use of the thyroid meds (which I REALLY do need!)
Has anyone else had this happen...and if so, do you know why it happens?
Thanks for any input.
