Hello,

high blood sugars in early pregnancy can cause birth defects / miscarriage.

High blood sugars in late pregnancy can cause fetal death, obese baby, and difficulty giving birth.

Target blood sugars in pregnancy are < 95 fasting and before meals and < 120 1 1/2 - 2 hours after eating.  NEver over 140.

During pregnancy, insulin resistance increases and so dose of insulin also needs to increase.  It can increase dramatically.

With use of insulin, diet - lower carb is very helpful, exercise and frequent testing it is possible to have a healthy pregnancy and a completely normal baby.  Many women have done it.  I have 2 babies both were fine 1 was 7 lb 6 oz @ 39 1/2 weeks, and the other was 7 lbs 3 oz at 38 weeks, both with no complications at all.

It is hard work, but the outcome of a healthy baby is very worth it.
