The key to an exercise program is to pace yourself, start slowly and gradually buildup over months to where you expect to be. Generally low intensity exercise will decrease glucose levels. Jumping head first into a strenuous exercise program will elevate your glucose levels as stress hormones are released which tells your body to release more sugar to fuel your muscles.

The general rule of thumb is that if your blood sugar is between 100-250 mg/dl [5.55-13.88 mmol/l] it is safe to exercise. If above 300 mg/dl [16.66 mmol/l] do NOT exercise until your glucose levels reach safe levels.
