losing weight

by simji, Nov 12, 2007 09:02AM
i have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. i had the thirst urination, tiredness etc. but my biggest problem is weight loss. i lost around 11 lbs and i seem to keep on losing weight. i need some help to help me gain some of it back. i am normally 200-202 lbs. right now im at 190. my clothes are falling off of me and frankly i am beginning to be scared. my appetite is extreme and i want to eat. i am trying my best to eat vegetables, whole grain bread and protein and i have stopped all sugar in drinks and coffee. i am taking metaformin 500 milligrams once a day as well as glipzid once a day. i have only been diagnosed for a week but i have been losing weight for around 4- 5 months. any help at all would be greatly appreciated. i just need to put some weight back on before i dry up and blow away. many thanks.

Hi,
I do need to know your height to see if this weight loss is not good. You should also be sure to ask your doctor to check for other causes of weight loss(e.g thyroid disease) and for glucose in your urine. My guess is that you are losing weight because you are urinating all your glucose out. Once your blood sugars become normal, that will stop and your weight will stabilize(if not increase). please speak to your doctor about this soon.
Take care

It would help if you told the doctor your height.

190 pounds at your height is a Body Mass Index of 27.5. This is not thin. In fact, it's a little heavy.
