storage of novolog insulin

confused about the temperature to store novolog pen.

It is best to refrigerate the unopened vial/cartridges/prefilled syringes between 36-46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C). Unopened insulin may also be stored at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C), but in that case it must be discarded after 28 days. Once opened, this medication may be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Discard 28 days after opening. Do not freeze. Discard the insulin if it has been frozen.

Additionally, I don't like my insulin stored in the refrigerator as insulin when cold has a burning sensation when injected. I am fortunate to have a kitchen drawer that remains at 50-70° F year round. Family & friends in warm climates like Hawaii must use the fridge for storage.

I dont think they mean insulin stored as insulin your using.  once I need a new insulin pen I take it out of the fridge and let it worm up before I use it.  I do store my unused insulin pens in the fridge.

I use a vial. Novolin says unopened vials shall be kept at temperatures below 30°C (86°F) for up to 28 days in the refrigerator, but should not be exposed to excessive heat or sunlight. Open vials may be refrigerated too. My pharmacist states that if I do not wish to refrigerate it my room temp of 50-70° is just fine for storage.
