Tracking carbs

So I am recording the number of carbs I have at each meal. I have been told that if something has over 5 grams of fiber to subtract it from the total carbs. Does anyone else do this? And if so for the drs reference should I record the total number of the number of carbs minus the fiber? Thoughts? Thank you!

You may need insulin. Some people cannot control gestational diabetes with diet, even with their very best efforts.

Yes, you can just keep cutting carbs .  No grains.  just non-starchy vegetables and plenty of healthy fats and protein.

If you are doing your very best, then you need to discuss starting insulin.  It makes things so much more manageable.

I was told that if the fiber was 5 or higher you split it in half and deduct it from the number of varbs to give you the actual carb count. So 8 fiber would be 4 off the number of carbs.

I deduct the fiber from the amount of carbs. U should try to stick to as low an amount of carbs as possible. 15-30 breakfast, 45-60 lunch and dinner and 15-30 snacks. I usually skip the snacks and my levels are Great.

I'm not on insulin but I'm struggling with my numbers. I eat veggies and only high fiber whole grains but if I have more than a serving (2 on rare occasions) my blood sugar spikes. So I just keep cutting them. My last doctor accused me of not following the diet and that my sugars are uncontrolled as a result then refused me service. I am now on top of the carb tracking photo documentingy meals for the next doctor.

Hi,

Many people do deduct the fibre from the carbs.  YOu could put down total carbs and then in bracket after the amount of fibre.  That way you have complete information.

Are you on insulin, or just counting carbs?

Personally, I never bother about counting fibre (I am on insulin).
