20 MONTH OLD RECENTLY PREDIAGNOSED

HOW CAN YOU TRY TO EXPLAIN TO AN 30 MONTH OLD CHILD THAT HE CAN'T EAT CERTAIN FOODS?

by JDRF-VOL-RL, Jul 20, 2007 12:00AM
Hello!  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  There are several things you could try.  First is to 'wean' him off the food, give him less and less of it until he doesn't ask for it.  Second is to go cold turkey and just say no, we're not having that anymore.  Third is to understand that a diabetic can still eat pretty much any food they could before diagnosis, they just have to know the carbs in it, and eat it in moderation.  So the foods may still be possible, but you can choose how much to eat of them.
