Atkins Diet

My child (7 yr. old) has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  Should I consider putting her on the Atkins Diet?  There seems to be a lot of controversy regarding this diet, yet lately I've been reading that this diet may be a good one for children with diabetes.
