Could this be diabetes

My 19 y.o. Cousin has lost 25lbs in the past 3 months. He feels nauseas after he eats and gets headaches. This just started happening a few months ago. He drinks a lot of water not cause he's thirsty but he was told it is healthy to drink 8 water bottles a day. He lost a lot of muscle mass. Waiting for blood work. Is this a medical emergency if he continues to feel sick.
