Desperately need Insulin Pump Suplies

by Demm, Mar 24, 2006 12:00AM
Can someone PLEASE help me? I'm a single mom with a son who is a diabetic and we have a state insurance plan and the only two places we know to get Insulin Pump supplies is through MIni Med and Liberty Medical and we are not covered through either place with our insurance!! We use to have medicaid and could get them easy but since they cancelled our medicaid and gave us this state insurance we are unable to get it through those two places and he is in DESPERATE need of some supplies! We have been trying for a month to find a way to get some. His Diabetic Specialist also had no idea where other than Mini Med. Can someone please tell me if there is somewhere else we can get them???

Dear Demm,
We volunteers on this Forum work closely with a sister-initiative also sponsored by Juvenile Diabetes Research FOundation and THAT group does have a specialist whom you can work with to get info on what's available in your state.  That initiative is called Online Diabetes Support Team (ODST).

As posted to "Vader418," a while back, the best way to reach that specialist is this:
Go to the website, www.jdrf.org and click on the link on the left side of the page under the header "Newly Diagnosed" (it's NOT just for newly diagnosed), "Online Diabetes Support Team (ODST)". You will be taken to a page where you can fill out a short form to give some information about your issue(like what you wrote here).

Your request will be sent directly to someone who is moderating the ODST program right now and THAT person will ensure the specialist gets in touch with you.  ODST allows for much more personal interactions, that we cannot do here on the Forum.  Since we work closely with them, please mention that you "heard about" ODST here at MedHelp/JDRF Forum.

I'm sure you'll learn a lot from the specialist at ODST and I wish you & your dear son very well.

Please do what JDRF Team LRS suggested. A woman who is affiliated with JDRF has contacted us and has offered to send you some supplies, and the only way we can put her in contact with you is through the ODST. I am attempting now to get this woman who has made the offer of Mini Med 508 model supplies (an unopened box is available) to agree to let us forward her e-mail address to the ODST so that she can be put in contact with you if you contact them. I hope to send her offer to them in a day or two (as soon as I have her formal agreement to let me forward her e-mail address).

Hi,
I have several boxes of "leftover" supplies from a paradigm 511 pump that I would be happy to send you.  I have the infusion sets and the reservoirs.  If this will help you out please let me know.
P.S.  If these are not the right kind for you, they are available to anyone else who may need them.

FYI - another place to get supplies is National Diabetic Pharmacy.  They have great customer service and a toll-free number :-)  Mini-med sent me to them when my insurance lost the contract with Mini-med and I have been happy with the company.  Sometimes it seems insurance is as tough to deal with as diabetes.

To: unused minimed pump supplies
I have leftover boxes of  minimed pump supplies that are still sealed they are outdated but never used I've asked many professionals and they should be usable. The reason is he switched pumps and they don't work with the new pump. I know how expensive they are and there has to be a use for them.
