Diabetes and pregnacy

I am a mother of 5 children that are alive and have had 6 live births and 2 misscarages. I have had all of them c sectioned and was wondering if there is a reccommended number of children a diabetic could have as long as it has had no negitive influence on their body.  Mine hasen't.  Is there any research going on in this field and or trials you have heard of that I might be able to volunteer in.  We plan to have more children. Although it will be a while due to the uterine rupture I had with the last one.

For those of you who have diabetes.  If you take good care of your diabetes it is possible to have many children and a healthy life.

Yes, I do have the pump. I use the 508 and love it.  I use the bigger reserve for when I am pregnant.  I have had diabetes for 23 years now and just started on the pump 2 years ago.  It has been a wonderful freedom from all the shots.  Now my doctor says they're coming out with a pump that checks your blood sugar and puts in insulin for you.  wouldn't that be like not having it at all besides the bloodsugar reading.  I cant wait.

Diabetes and pregnacy isn't always easy but with dedication and quick reaction to your bodys changes which can get to being everyweek, your pregnacys can be completely normal.

Good luck to all who become mothers.

Thanks for the link.

Hi Mommy! I can only suggest that you check the JDRF website at www.jdrf.org or contact your nearest hospitals to see if any studies are going on.  I also have seen some research studies posted on the National Institute of Health website...you may want to check this link for more information : www.niddk.nih.gov/fund/diabetesspecialfunds/T1D_CTCR/T1D_SpecialFunding.htm .

You are absolutely correct when you stated that taking care of yourself can achieve these wonderous little people and I thank you for encouraging others that they can too.

Are you on the insulin pump or shots?  If you're not on the pump as yet, you may want to look into it as many people have great success with it.

Good luck with those kids and I hope you have the time to come back to our site often!
