Diabetes camp is funding available

by AngelAbove, May 31, 2005 12:00AM
My niece is 8 years old and her mother would like her to attend a week long "diabetes camp" this summer. The camp focus is to help children develop responsible self-care techniques, coping and life skills in dealing with their condition. Could such a program fall under major medical insurance? Is there any other programs which are available to assist with funding? The cost is $500. and the parents do Not qualify for Medicaid.

Hello AngelAbove,

I am a volunteer here. My son, now 10 was diagnosed at the age of 5.  He goes to a diabetic camp where we live.  His is a day camp for 4 days in July.  He just loves it!

Has her mother called the camp or whoever holds the camp?  I have seen diabetic camps that say "camperships available".

Copy and paste this link and see if you can fidn the camp that your niece would like to go to.  Possibly you can find more information.  As I mentioned, I have seen many camps that say "funding or camperships available".

As far as falling under medical insurance, I honestly do not know.  I think her mom should talk to the contact person of the camp.

I am also a volunteer and my daughter goes to a diabetes camp.  Most diabetes camps have camerhips, to help defray the cost. Also check with your local civic groups, such as rotary, elks etc. They help people in these situations.
