Diabetes management software recommendations?

by jasminec, Feb 11, 2007 12:00AM
Hi there.  My daughter turned 3 on Feb. 1 and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on Feb. 5th.  I have an ultra touch 2 monitor for her.  I did notice that they have a software for it in which I can download and monitor her levels, etc.  I also have noticed that there is a diabetes pilot software in which I can get for my desktop and pda.  I like the fact that the diabetes pilot has a list of foods (carbs, etc.) that you can enter for reference and can be used on my pda.  Not sure if the lifescan (ultra touch 2) one does but I do like that I can download the results from the monitor to the computer with it even though it wouldn't be hard for me to do so manualy.  Does anyone have any personal experience with diabetes software and have any to recommend from their experiences?  Cons and pros would be greatly appreciated as everything is so new to me.  Also, I'm rather good with a computer so I'm not intimidated by complexity of a program.  Thank you very much to all in advance.

Hi, I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  We've used the OneTouch software as well, and really like it.  I think all the meter companies produce their own software that is specifically good with their meter.  Same thing goes with all the pump companies.  I've looked at a few 3rd party software vendors diabetes management products, and keep coming back to those produced by the meter and pump companies.  They just seem to have the functionality we need.  But your mileage may vary!

We use the one touch ultra 2 and the onetouch ultra smart.  I use there software that you can download from their website.  I like  the  software, I can see what patterns my saughter is having.

It has 2 features that I really like , one is that you can add notes , such as sick days , over bolus, extra excersize etc. also you can set the meteres to the computers by the touch of a button.  you can also clear the meter if you meed to for any reason.  It makses life easier when daylight savings time comes areound as we, have 3 meters.  one for  home one for shcool and one as an extra.

I have used oher programs , but this one is good.   my docotr does not liker that it does not print the reports horizontally so  it is e4sier for him, but he deal swith it.
