First Pump

by pumpgirl03, Dec 04, 2003 12:00AM
Does anyone know what year the first pump was developed? And how big it was?

Thanks

I'll dig a bit deeper for you, but I know that the first pump *I* saw was over 21 years ago (the age of my niece who was born to my sister with DM, too).

It had very few features and, while my sister pumped during both her pregnancies to ensure the best possible environment for her children to develop in, she hated the experience so much she is not at all interested in ever pumping again.

Check back ... I hope to find more info, soon.

Well, I had a successful pump research evening.  Visit this web site (notice that the web address might stretch across 2 lines ... it starts with http ... and ends with html)

http://www.phlex.org/Diabetes/information-about-diabetes/insulin-pump2.html

I've been pumping for about 8 and am extremely grateful to have been born & diagnosed this late in the pump's evolution.  The first one, developed in 1963, looks like a huge & heavy back pack, and it paved the way for what we enjoy today.  Well, until we find a cure, that it.

All the best and thanks for asking that interesting question!
