High blood glucose level and heart rate

by Duchess47, Feb 28, 2006 12:00AM
I have been diagnosed with Gastroparesis and am wondering if a high glucose level in the blood will raise your heart rate.  There have been times after eating a meal whereby my glucose level went up.  My heart rate went up too, then came down on its own.  Actually,  will having food remaining in your stomach for a long period of time make this happen? thank you

Hello duchess47,

I am one of the volunteers here, so please keep in mind that I am not a medical professional, so you should always follow up with your endocrinologist when you have concerns and / or questions.  My son, now 11, was dxd at age 3.

I have heard about gastroparesis, but do not know a lot about it.

I do know that you may experience a rapid heart rate during low blood sugar, but was truthfully unsure about it during high blood sugar, so I did a bit of searching and found the below:

Symptoms of mild high blood sugar include:

Increased thirst and urination, especially at night.
Warm, dry skin.
A rapid heart rate with a weak pulse.

Although I am sure you will receive comments and helpful advice from others who post here, you should talk to your doctor about the rapid heart rate and it being related to high BG, etc.

Sorry that I could not give you a thorough answer.

Best of luck to you and please take care.

Hi Duchess,
If we are experiencing high levels of ketones we might also have a noticeable, rapid heartbeat.

Gastroparesis is such an unkind complication; perhaps the information at this site will offer some suggestions & insights for easing your way:
