High blood sugar and ketones in a child under 5

A 4 year old child who has had diahrrea for the past few weeks, wakes up shakey (shaky) and not feeling well. She was taken to the ER where her blood sugar was found to be 220. She also had red and white blood cells in her urine, as well as glucose, ketones, and protien. Could this be a result of dehydration? Or is there a chance she could have type 1 DM?

Some infections can raise blood sugars, but yes, this presentation can be the onset of type 1 diabetes. I'm assuming she wasn't diagnosed in the ER but was referred for a follow up appointment with her pediatrician or a pediatric endocrinologist in the next few days?
