I am worried about having diabetes

by mandeen, Aug 15, 2007 12:00AM
I really do not know how to start my question.
I just discovered during a routine blood test that my glucose test is 100.
I knew from a friend that if it's between 100 and 125 it's called pre-diabetes and it will lead to type 2 diabetes is that true?
The night before getting the blood test I ate chocolate and thatwas the last thing I ate and then I fasted for more that 12 hours.
What do you think?
Thanks

Hello.  Your friend is correct that fasting blood sugar ranges between 100 and 125 are normally called pre-diabetes.  Here is some information on pre-diabetes:

That being said, having pre-diabetes does not mean you will ever actually develop diabetes.  Your chances are higher, but it's not a given, for developing type 2 diabetes.  You can work to prevent the diabetes by increasing your amount of physical activity and changing your diet.  Type 2 diabetes is managed primarily by diet and exercise.  Good luck!
