Is there a limit on the number of times a person can finger test?

by mikmikella, Aug 23, 2007 12:00AM
A few years ago, I discovered I had some bleeding behind my eye.  I never believed in monitoring my blood sugar until then.  The doctor explained I needed to keep my levels under 200 to prevent bleeding behind the eye.  Since then I've become obsessed with testing and test up to five times in one day.  Several people have told me I am testing too much.  Is there a limit on how many times a person can finger test in a day?

No, I test between 5 and 10 times per day.  I think the better you know your blood glucose levels the better control you have.

My daughter checks her sugar around 6-8 times a day on a good day.  It is very important to alternate fingers.  There are checkers that allow you to test on other parts of your body but you have to be careful in doing this as the results vary depending on where you check from.

That isnt true i check between 10 -15 times a day sometimes more as much as every hour to half and hour.  I just had my son on aug 20 so i had lots of problems with highs and lows and I just recently got on the pump so im not checking so much but i still have to check at least 10 times a day. I will be getting on the real time monitor soon and that checks every 15mins so the only thing that happens when you check alot is sore fingurs.

I have been told by people i check way to much. but my doctor has me check that much.  I guess it all depends on how your body works and my is very challenging when it comes to sugars.
