DIABETES - JUVENILE TYPE I COMMUNITY
Just diagnosed...(HELP!)

Just diagnosed...(HELP!)

So, I was just released a couple hours ago from the hospital. I couldn't think of everything I waned to ask when th doctors and nurses asked me "any more questions.."

This is probably stupid I am posting here, but I am not sure if this is a big deal or who to call. I test my sugar before dinner and I was 150 mg/dl  and two hours later I went up to 290 mg/dl. Now, this happened in the hospital I always got high after I ate (of course!), however I am paranoid and tested an hour later (10 minutes ago) and its now 298 mg/dl. I am not sure if I should take more Humalog and have a small snack, or take my Lantus and just head to bed. I am so nervous it is like I forgot everything they went over in the hospital.

I was diagnosed last year and went through the same thing.  Your Humalog could take up to 4 or 5 hours to have full effect, so if you give yourself another shot before that time is through you may end up with a low.  The best thing you could ever do for yourself is to get a good endocrinologist and see a dietician.  If you continue seeing a regular family doctor, they may not have all the expertise to answer all your questions thoroughly.

Thanks!

And seems I was just getting all worked up. I ended up waiting and then just taking m Lantus and heading to bed. I talked to my cousin in the morning (a nurse) and said it was normal. I had to get used to everything. By the next day in the afternoon (and now) I have been normal range. Feel more comfortable about this now. I was just freak cause that night was my first night home from the hospital. Again, thanks for the response!
