Marijuana and hypoglycemia

by tashchris, Mar 13, 2008 08:51PM
I have noticed on your discussion board questions regarding diabetes and marijuana use and have also noticed that these people are experiencing a "dampening" effect on their blood sugars.  I smoked marijuana regularly until I became hypoglycemic and suddenly my blood sugars were dipping low and had extreme nausea.  I also have PCOS and am trying to lose weight with little success.  Are these reactions to marijuana normal given my medical conditions?  Can you safely smoke marijuana with hypoglycemia without overloading my system with sugar?

I am a little unclear if you have diabetes or if you are hypoglycemic, from you question.  If you are hypoglycemic then www.hypoglycemia.org is a good website for some information.
As for marijuana, I don't think there is a correlation between low blood sugars and using marijuana.  I do know that it will lessen your ability to detect low blood sugars, anything mind altering is not advisable for a diabetic.  And when you overloaded with sugar you were probably overcompensating.  Take some glucose, wait 15 minutes, check your blood sugar and if needed take more glucose and repeat those steps as necessary.
