Medtronic quick-set infusion sets driving me crazy!

by lollyp68, May 24, 2008 07:13AM
I have been having repeated problems with my 6mm infusion sets for the last 6 months.  I get recurring blockages, bent canulas, and I've been to the ER once with DKA.  Can anyone suggest an alternative infusion set (preferably one with an automatic insert device rather than a manual insert).  Additionally, is anyone having similar problems with these quick-sets?  I have contacted my supplier but they tended to believe it was something I was doing - I've also wondered if the problem could be caused by scar tissue on my abdomen.  Thanks for your help, lollyp

My son uses the Medtronic quick set with the inserter device that kind of pops it in. Are you using that?? It works great for him.  I can't imagine properly inserting it manually. He'll have a bent cannula every now and then but it's not a problem. We go by the rule "if sugar is high twice in a row change the site". This eliminates any problem of his sugar getting really out of control. If you have scar tissue on your abdomen, that seems likely to cause the bent cannulas. Is there a longer length infusion set to try? Maybe the 6mm just isn't going in far enough. Also, try a new location. My son uses his back hip area.

Good luck to you!
