Need help with 504 urgent

I tried to get my sons school to do the 504 and this was the response. Any body tell me if this is true?
Concerning the 504, we will need to make a determination as a team (nurse, teacher, principal, parent, district representative) that E's diabetes is substantially limiting his education.  A medical diagnosis does not automatically qualify a student for a 504.   I will be happy to contact our pupil services person in charge of 504s and have them get in touch with you.  Typically, we would meet as a team to evaluate the situation, make the determination, then write the 504 together if determined appropriate.

Hi.  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  Yes, that is a valid response.  The 504 process starts with you requesting one, and then an evaluation team is formed to determine whether a 504 is appropriate.  Diabetes is substantially limiting, but just having diabetes doesn't automatically mean you get one.  Stick to your message, though, and you will convince them.  Good luck.

IT SCARED ME WHEN THE SCHOOL DIDN'T AUTOMATICALLY PLACE MY CHILD ON A 504 PLAN, LIKE I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD.  BUT I FOUND AN ARTICLE THAT COMFORTED ME AS I WAS GOING THROUGH THE "PROCESS" OF HAVING THE RESISTANT SCHOOL PLACE MY CHILD ON A 504.   ALTHOUGH TO AVOID CONFRONTATION I DIDN'T EVER SHOW THE SCHOOL THIS ARTICLE. GOOGLE

FEDERAL LAWS AND DIABETES MANAGEMENT AT SCHOOL

THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO FIND THE ARTICLE.
GOOD LUCK
