Pancreas Calcification

by Mom2one, Apr 21, 2006 12:00AM
I have been plagued with severe, upper left abdominal pain for a while now.  I'm a 35 year old female.  I've had an upper G.I. which was fine.  I've had two CT scans, both of which confirmed the presence of a single, coarse calcification located in the tail of my pancreas.  Along with this regular upper left abdominal pain, I've had issues with undigested food, extreme fatigue, but no weight loss. (I believe this is due to the fact that I've been inactive...thus, an actual gain in weight).  I've had symptoms that remind me of those that my father experiences with his diabetes...if I don't eat small, regular meals I become very faint, weakness, fatigue, etc.  I am just curious as to whether or not anyone has had experience with such a presence in the pancreas.  My doctor does not seem to think it's anything to worry about.  I'm wondering if I should seek a second opinion.  Thank you kindly for any help.

I am not a doctor but a volunteer with Type I diabetes.  I searched on the internet because I did not know much about the symtoms you mentioned.  I found one site that talked about calcification, but am still looking for more.  The site spoke of chronic pancreatitis, but talked about weight loss and other factors which you did not mention.
You mentioned fatigue-maybe you should mention to your doctor about having your thyroid checked.  Did you talk to your doctor about weakness and feeling faint?  Maybe you should have a test for diabetes like a fasting glucose?
If you think you are not getting the answers you need, by all means go to another doctor.  I see nothing wrong with getting a second opinion or even third.  You have to feel comfortable with your doctor and able to ask questions and get answers.  Have you thought of seeing an endocronologist who specializes in the endocrine system?  That may help you find the some answers to your questions.
