Pancreas Transplant

Pancreas Transplant

I'm 25, and having challenges.  Like for instance... I was doing pretty good with my blood sugar control until yesterday.  I was up and down through out the day, high then low, high then low.  200 - 60.  Then I changed my inset at night, and apparently it didn't puncture and woke up at freaking 478!  Its very frustrating when I try as hard as I do.

I'm at a point where I'd take a transplant.  Anyone know much about them?  The costs even with insurance?  The side affects of the suppression meds?  Someone who has had one or knows someone who did?  Success and failure stories?

Also I hear things about Inset Cell Transplantation.  Whats that all about?  AND when are they going to come out with a surgical blood sugar monitor already!!!  One that regulates 24/7?!!?

It sounds as if you have had some frustrating times lately.  I can relate.  I have been diabetic for 27 years and have faced many of the challenges you speak about.  I do not know much about a transplant, but I do know that the research is all heading to replacing the islet cells that actually produce insulin in the pancreas.  I think if you go on the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation website, www.jdrf.org you will find a lot of information about the questions you are asking.
