Peripheral neruapathy?

by Sandy57, Oct 06, 2005 12:00AM
My 58 year old husband has noticed that his feet tingle, feel hot, and tight(like he's wearing tight socks). Is this  diabetic peripheral neurapathy?  He has no other symptoms...excessive thirst, excessive unrinating, etc.  He has a doctor's appointment next Tuesday but I want a few answers now.  Any ideas?

Dear Sandy,
These symptoms you describe can certainly be caused by diabetic neuropathy. The best defense and treatment for this is to improve the self monitoring of blood glucose, keeping it at normal levels helps prevent the problems. i can sympathize because i have a bit of the neuropathy in my foot and this may be from the fact that at the beginning of my 31 years as a diabetic they didn't control blood glucose as well as they can now. But i hate to talk like i'm lecturing and am only making a suggestion that anyone in the field of diabetes treatment would agree with. take care, bret

Sandy,
As you may know, none of us here is a medical professional, but we all have experience with diabetes.  BL is right that those symptoms are consistent with diabetic neuropathy.  From your msg, it seems as tho' your hubby hasn't been dx'd with diabetes and doesn't have any classic symptoms, and so if it is neuropathy there may be other causes for it.

Here's NIH information about neuropathy from National Institutes of Health, a reputable source of information on this subject.
