Possible Misdiagnosis?

My 8 yr. old has been taking less insulin since his diagnosis with Type 1 diabetes, and it's getting to the point that I wonder if he needs insulin at all. Could it be that the pediatrician misdiagnosed my son?

I would work closely with your physician.  In my experience with my son, he went trough what is called a honeymoon period
and didn't require as much insulin for awhile.  I don't know how long ago your son was diagnosed with type one diabetes, but
I would suggest you consult with his doctor.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes diabetes when i was eleven. As i went through puberty my insulin requirements went up and down with the hormone fluctuations. This could also be an explanation for your son's lower insulin requirements.

Then also the honeymoon is the more likely explanation if he was recently diagnosed. The honeymoon period happens when the pancreas has not completely destroyed all of the insulin producing cells.
