Possible child with diabetes

Hello, I am hoping someone out there can give some advise on what to do.  I have a 6 year old son with a history of failure to thrive and very low blood sugars when he gets sick (in the range of 20-30mg)  Very scary!  This was around the age of 3.  He was passed off as having some metabolic disorder and has really been fine, thankfully.  Several months ago he started wetting the bed and having increases thirst, so I contacted my doc and they did a fasting glucose and it came back fine.  Now within the past few weeks, he has increased his appetite greatly, has become very irritable and has a couple of very slow healing sores on his arm.  I have been checking his glucose at home with a meter from pregnancy and his levels are as follows.  Fasting 78  2 hours after breakfast 158  before lunch 126 2 hours after lunch 128.  My doctor is not concerned, but as a parent, seeing his symptoms and his history, I am.  I am not sure what to do next.  I do not want to wait for something bad to happen like before to get someones attention.  Any advise??

My name is Ardy Johnson and I am a volunteer with the JDRF, please understand I am not qualified to give you medical information, but my son was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 11 and is now 38 years old.
What I can give you are the classic symptoms of type 1 and they are:
*excessive thirst
* excessive urination
* excessive hunger
* weight loss
* fatigue
* blurred vision
* sugar and ketones in the urine
I can also tell you the “normal” BG range is 80-120 (some might suggest 70-120) but you can see your son isn’t too far out of the range, with the exception of the one at 158, however one blood sugar doesn’t a diagnosis make…unless it is extremely high.
When my son was diagnosed we knew none of the symptoms, so we missed them all, although I was becoming concerned about all the water he was drinking and all the trips to the bathroom, plus signs of fatigue.  Fortunate for us my brother was visiting for Christmas and he recognized all the symptoms.  So Jeff was diagnosed on Christmas Eve with blood sugars over 700.
Having said all of that, if I were you, I would certainly keep my eye on this, and continue to check his blood sugars, and most importantly follow your gut.  If you continue to have concerns I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to the doctor because you are absolutely right in not wanting to let something bad happen regardless of what a potential diagnosis might be.
I hope this has been helpful to you and I wish you good luck in bringing closure on your concerns.
