Questioning Diagnosis

Questioning Diagnosis

I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, however I have also been fighting a severe e coli infection.  I know that infections will raise you blood sugar levels.  I have been monitoring my levels and all come well with in the limits I am allowed, so questioned my doctor as to the accuracy of my diagnosis.  When I asked all I got was a lecture on how carefully I need to be monitored and if I don't I am putting my baby at risk.  Found it quite disturbing that the doctor refused to answer my question.  Can anyone help?  I have been given so much wrong information so far at the hospital that I am beginning to doubt their ability to care for me, especially after this last episode.

If I can ask have you had a 1 hr. glucose tolerance test?  If so what was that value?  I work at a OB/GYN office and we are very strict with our levels.  Our physicians want to make sure that glucose levels 1 hr. after eating are less than 120 and fasting in the morning less that 90.  Depending on what your levels have been really depends on if you can relate it to the e coli infection, Are you on any antibiotics? I do feel that your physician should not ignore your requests for answers but do take it seriously.  I was gestational diabectic with both of my children and with my daughter she was born at 36 weeks and was in the NICU for 10 days because her lungs were immature.  I hope this helps in some way.  Let me know if you have any other questions or if I can help.
