Recent news about diabetic pregnancy research

The recent news outbreak regarding research on birth defects of babies born to women who are diabetic before pregnancy, is driving me crazy! They are stating that women who are diabetic before/during pregnancy, have a 3-4% higher risk of mulitple birth defects and/or stillbirth than they had thought before. (?) I want to know how much more I am really at risk if I have tightly controlled bloodsugars throughout pregnancy? I am not currently pregnant, but had a successful pregnancy 2 years ago and a very healthy 7.3 lb. boy. I was adamant about keeping my bloodsugars in check, and stayed in good contact with my Perinatologist. We are thinking of having a second child, and were already anxious regarding the already known risks. Does this new study need to make me worry more?
