Signs of diabetes in children

by kris123, Oct 22, 2008 01:10PM
What are the signs.  My son is one and he drinks about 30oz of fluid a night or more.  I change him at least 5-7 times during 8pm and 6:15am - the diapers are very full when I change them.  He doesn't drink so much during the day.  The dr seemed to think he drank because he is trying to comfort himself(bottle).  If I don't give him the bottle he cries so bad and does for many min untill I give him something to drink and he drinks about 4oz at a time and then goes back to sleep.  Could this be a sign, she wasn't concerned but I don't know it seems a little much for me.  Should I take him to another dr just for them to test?  What are the other signs?

Has he lost any weight?  If he's eating/drinking so much and not gaining, or losing weight, I would ask for a blood glucose test.  A simple finger stick test in the doctor's office would tell you what his blood sugar is at that time.

Since he's not drinking as much during the day, it just may be a phase he's going through.  But I would ask for the blood test, just to ease your mind.
