Thrush

My son has been a type one since age 15.   Lately, he's been having trouble, embarassingly enough, with thrush in his anal area.  He doesn't have insurance and it's difficult for him to afford a drs visit, but, we paid for one and the dr told him he had thrush and it was probably a result of his diabetes.  The doctor prescribed him a cream, which he finished and the thrush subsided for a while, but now, it's back.  He can't afford another paid-for visit and prescription....he has a hard enough time paying for his insulin.  Is there anything else he can put down there that will get rid of the thrush or anything to take over-the-counter by mouth to prevent it from reoccuring?

This is a fungal problem, and he will need anti-fungal meds to take care of it, just as before. However, he can help himself by getting excellent control over his diabetes. Fungii love diabetics whose control is not good, but when glucose levels are normalized, they don't thrive as easily.
