Type 1 Diabetes

by Nemo1982, Sep 12, 2007 12:00AM
I am currently in the Air Force and was just diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  I am wondering what my next step is.  I was currently on PRP, now I have an desk job until they decide my fate.  How do I fight for a Medical Discharge?

Hello.  dLife recently profiled an Army sergeant who successfully fought against medical discharge for his diabetes.  For some reason I when I try to post the show transcript the web software complains about the full url, so you'll have to go here:

http://www.dlife.com/

and then search for 'Army sergeant'.  The first link will be the show transcript.  I'd contact dLife and the American Diabetes Association.  dLife can likely give you more information about that sergeant's case, and the ADA has legal resources to help you.  It is possible to do fight the discharge, but it won't be easy.  Good luck and thank you for your service!
