Type 1 diabets onset

by eitanshv, Oct 27, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
I have type 1 diabetes since 1998 (I am 35 now).
I am intersting about the onset of type 1 diabets.
I am starting to investigate wherther stress can be a major factor and can be the trigger whom can cause the diabetes.
I am looking for some important medicine textbooks who claim that sterss can be the cause of a diabetes and support this theory.
I will be very glad to get a list of some textbook names that calims that stress can be playing a role in the onset of type 1 diabets.
I would also appricate if you know whethere there was lately some research who investigated the connection betweeb sterss and diabetes and came out with a solid evidence base for the connection between stress and diabetes onset.

I am sorry, but I have never heard any claims that stress can cause type 1 diabetes. It is commonly thought at this time that type 1 diabetes is caused primarily by genetic abnormalities that cause our bodies' immune systems to malfunction if certain triggers activate the immune system. Those triggers, according to articles I have read, are thought to be viruses, and there are even some articles that list certain viruses that are thought to act as 'trigger' viruses because the virus protein structures are very similar to the protein structure of our pancreas' insulin-producing cells. Stress certainly plays a huge role in our glucose levels, for adrenalin acts to inhibit the effectiveness of insulin, but I have not read any studies that claim that stress is the cause of the disease.
