Type 2 Diabeties severe weight loss

by NikkiNDG, Apr 22, 2008 05:27PM
Diagnosed with type 2 Diabeties 4 yrs. ago. My A.M. readings are over 200, after taking 1500 mg of Metformin and 10mg of Glyberide, also on 10 mg of Lipitor.  Four years ago my weight was about 150 lbs.,as of today it is about 109, without really trying. When I eat more carbs than I should, which brings my sugar up, I still can't gain any weight. The doctors don't seem to recognize a problem. Help!!  NikkiNDG

Hi, I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  I'm more familiar with type 1 diabetes, but isn't the Metformin designed to make you lose weight?  You're taking a significant dose of it, which explains your weight loss, as well as likely explains your inability to gain weight.
