Weight gain after starting on intensive insulin therapy and neurontin

I am T1 dibetic x39yrs. A few years ago I was placed on intesive insulin therapy shooting 4x per day (humolog and Latus).  Since then, I have gained about 30 lbs.  To make matters worse, I was also placed on neurontin to treat diabetic neuropathies (peripheral, autonomic and focal) which I have to take several times per day.  Neurontin also causes weight gain.  My question is, has anyone out there gone through this?  And, what can be done to help with this issue.  Remember that neuropathy also limits mobility...

Please advice,  Marie

Hi, I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  I can find many comments and notes about how Neurontin causes weight gain, but nothing about how to stop that weight gain, other than to look for an alternative medicine.

Are you finding you are eating more now?  If your glucose scores aren't under control, it can cause you to eat more, which would cause more fat to be stored.  If eating too much is adding to the problem, there is a product called Symlin which can reduce your appetite.  It is an artificial form of another protein that your pancreas makes, which also stops when your pancreas stops producing insulin.  Just a couple ideas for you.  Good luck.
