What to do with my old pump?

by Meredith2006, Dec 26, 2006 12:00AM
I have been a pump therapy patient for about four and a half years.  I recently upgraded from a MiniMed 522 to a 722, and now have a pump sitting around with no use for it.  I was wondering if there were any charitable organizations that could accept a used pump as a donation, or what others had done with their used pumps.  I certainly do not want someone to start pump therapy against (or without)the advice of a physician, but I also know that price can be very prohibitive for someone who could benefit from pump therapy.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Meredith,

I think it's great you want to help others by donating your used insulin pump so that someone else may have a chance to improve their diabetes care. I'm sure there are many charitable organizations who would take you up on your offer. One of them may be S.U.G.A.R (Support Unlimited Guaranteed for Appliances Required, Assistance for diabetic devices). This organization "serves the people of Canada by donating diabetic devices to individuals who are unable to afford them thus enhancing the quality of life they richly deserve." Their website is http://www.sugarcharity.org/

Thank you and take care!

You can also contact your endocrinologists office to see if they will take it to donate to a needy patient.  My husband was on some very expensive injectible meds for Hep C, and when his treatment was over, he had several vials (of course, sealed and in the box) left over.  His GI docs office gave them to another patient who was having trouble affording meds.

I live in thailand. I'm a volunteer in thai diabetic child and adolescent support club.
Here hasn't health insurance for insulin pump and it is very expensive. Children can't afford it.
I would appreciated,if you would like to donate it for a child in thailand.
I will pay for the shipping cost to thailand.
Please tell me if you're ok.

Thanks

MY DOCTOR JUST SWITCHED MY INSULIN PUMP FROM THE DELTEC COZMO TO A DIFFERENT ONE. I HAVE SO MANY SUPPLIES LEFT AS I HAVE BEEN ON THAT FOR FOR 4 YEARS. I WOULD LIKE TO DONATE THEM TO SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T HAVE INSURANCE AND DESPRETLY NEEDS THESE SUPPLIES. I HAVE INFUSION SETS AND RESEVOIRS, ALOT OF THEM.. PLEASE IF ANYONE NEEDS THESE PLEASE EMAIL ME AT ***@**** PS I WOULD HAVE TO SHIP THEM TO YOUR ENDOCRINOLOGIST AS IT IS ILLEGAL TO SHIP THEM DIRECTLY TO YOU. THANK YOU, JENNIFER
