cause of diabetes in children

by thallen1, Aug 08, 2007 12:00AM
I was told that sugar free foods and drinks can cause diabetes in children and I wanted to know if that is true.

No.  Absolutely not.  Not in any way, shape, or form is that in any way true.  It is completely false.  If I can say that any stronger, I would.  What you state is a type 1 diabetes myth.  With respect to type 2 diabetes, however, excess food consumption coupled with lack of exercise can cause type 2 diabetes.  But sugar free foods are not a cause of either form of diabetes.

The actual cause of diabetes is not yet known, but it is known that what you eat does not cause type 1 diabetes.
