are urinary test accurate for checking if a child has diabetes?my son is obese a was checked for sugar in his urine,it came out negative, is that accurate, does that test work?

A urine test is not as accurate as a blood test, but it does show for sure if sugar is spilling over into the urine because there is not enough insulin working. So it will without doubt show if the child is extremely out of good glucose control. But if things are borderline, I don't know if you will see a positive test. A glucose test from blood is much more accurate.

I am no expert on diabetes, just the child of a type 2 diabetic and niece of three diabetics, but I think the urine test you are referring to is for something called ketones. I think this test tells you if you have uncontrolled diabetes.

I am sorry I can't be more helpful
