dizziness and nausea among other problems

by D646, Aug 16, 2005 12:00AM
Hello,

I am a 24yr old female.
Symptoms are.

1) Dizziness. Ranging from light-headed to fainting (fainted 4 times in 5 years, each time early in the morning w/o have eaten)

2) Nausea. Same as dizziness, usually ever day, ranging from a tight stomach to the sever feeling of having to vomit (never have vommitted from this) Have had this since childhood.

3) When I have what I call an attack, I get very pale, weak, sweaty, confused, nauseous and sometimes faint (have to lie down)After a little bit I am completly ok.

4) I shake. Mostly my hands tremble, sometimes for no reason others wehn I get scared or anxious.

5) Frequent urination, I am getting up to go to the bathroom between 4-6 times a night (not as much during the day)

6) Weight loss and gain. I am sometimes really hungry or not at all.

Last time I fainted my doc did a finger test and said I was anemic at the time. I am so scared as I have no idea what this is. Does anyone feel the same or have the same symptoms? Thankyou for your time.

Hello D646,
We are volunteers here & not medical professionals, so please do follow up with a medical doctor to review the information & suggestions you get here.

Many of your symptoms are consistent with diabetes and so it's important that you talk to your doctor ASAP to be evaluated for that.  Untreated diabetes can lead to premature nasty complications.

YOu categorized your posting as "hypoglycemia" and dizzy, nausea, sweaty feelings are common symptoms of hypoglycemia aspects of diabetes.  The frequent urination and weight loss and others are common symptoms of hyperglycemia aspects of diabetes.  Only a physician can determine, for sure, if you have diabetes, pre-diabetes, or something else altogether.

If your current physician was only willing to test you for anemia (are you being treated for that?), then I recommend you choose another physician for a much more complete workup.  Stress alone can create several of the symptoms you report, also.  If you do have diabetes, it will be important to be followed by a physician who SPECIALIZES in its treatment:  either an endocrinologist or a diabetologist.  A general practice physician will not have the depth or breadth of knowledge needed to help you learn to manage the disease.

Good luck.  Push past the fear to contact a doctor for a full workup.  You'll relieve a lot of your fear by then being able to focus on managing whatever "it" is.

Thanx for your response!

I have had a full physical last year, followed by a full pap every year.

Can nausea and dizziness be a part of diabetes? How about hypoglycemia? My doctor is convinced it is stress and anxiety.

I am seeing a different doctor tonight.

The short answer to your question is "yes" and they can also be symptoms of other things, stress included.

Be very frank with your docs so they can work with you to diagnose what's causing your symptoms.

Good luck with all this.
