grand mother just find out grandsson has type 1

Hello my grandson was taking into the hopital for a common cold. When we first took him in his breathing wasn't rough but after the 4 time we took him back to the children medical center his breathing got worst. They diagnosos him with the coup. they said there were hundrens of children there for the same thing. so the doctors gave him steroids about six different times in the four differnt trips to the ER and on the four trip my 12 month old grandson was diagnosis with type 1 diabetes. We have never taken him to the ER  or ever been admitted before. We only we to the doctor for runtine checkups. He was a perfectly health baby, not any problems when he was born or anything. However the hospital staff contantly kept telling us it was nothing they did to bring this on, but one doctor did make the statemant of say steroids can cause your blood sugar to rise. now it has our wheels turning could them giving him serveral doses of steroids that he did not need cause in to go into a diabetic shock and cause his immune system to stop working and start killing cells he needed to produce his own insluin someone please tell me is it any true to this or am I losing my mind.
