My father was diagnosed with type 1 when he was 30 years old does that put me at a bigger risk for getting type 1
is type one able to be passed on genetically?

Dear ilovepvm,
We are volunteers here and not medical professionals.  Researchers are still working to identify all the risk factors for Type 1 diabetes, and there does seem to be a genetic component.  It is an autoimmune disease, much like hypothyroidism, autism, and some forms of arthritis.

Best thing for you -- just like all people -- is to lead the healthiest lifestyle you can, and pay attention to the warning signs.  Most of all, **live** your life fully.

To answer your question, is it genetically possible to get type 1 diabetes from a parent, yes it is.
