I would suggest you contact the pump company that you want to use and self if they have any plans to help. You DO NOT weren’t to get a used pump that is not under warranty. because if something happens you will have to pay to get it fixed. If it is under warranty they send out a replacement free.
I work in medical billing and have much different insurance over time. You need to do is call your insurance company and ask what is there approved pump. We once had an insurance that would not pay for the pump I wanted to get my daughter. I asked what they do pay for and we were able to have my doctor write a letter of medical necessity as to why I needed a certain, pump and they eventually paid for it in full. Most insurance companies will pay for the pump in full, put the pump supplies which get shipped 3 months at a time are usually only paid for 50% as they are considered dme equipment. To need to call the pump company and what CPT codes they bill. Then call your insurance company and ask what they pay if it is approved.
I recently did this for our daughter pump supplies when our insurance changed so that I know what my expenses will be
I hope this helps.
if your insurance won't fork out a majority of the expenses you can buy insulin pumps online. I just did a search on eBay and saw a minimed 508 for 100 bucks as of now (see link below).
ALSO, I know minimed remanfacturers pumps. They may not advertise it and may not even let you speak to someone on their hotline about this topic BUT, I am sure you can buy a remanufactured one cheaper and it will have some form of warranty. My minimed pump has been replaced some 5-6 times in 2 years and every time is has been remanufactured. Only the first pump was new.
eBay has a new feature that allows you to request a product now so that might help you find a particular pump you want. And, you might try to raise some funding to buy a pump. There are some sites that help out in this: http://www.fundable.org
