random blood glucose check

I have been checking my blood glucose everyday now for the past week because I have all the symptoms.  I have found out that I have abnormal readings and I'm going to get tested for diabetes next week.  I was wondering what a random blood glucose check was.  Do you check it any time (even a few minutes after eating)?  I have heard that you need to check it at least two hours after eating (which is what I do).  I usually get between high 7's and 10.

I have been checking mine daily since Oct3; fasting 12 hours and after meals 2 hours on alternate days. The guidelines given me are 4 to 7 fasting
and 5 to 10 after meals. After your test next week you will get an a1c reading. If that is 7.0% or above the after meal guideline is 5 to 8.
