rising blood sugars, illness

by kmsmom, Oct 04, 2007 12:00AM
My daughter has a bronchial virus that started a few days ago and seems to be much better. But the last two nights her blood sugars have been rising and she had keytones in the morning...is this normal? Am I to expect this towards the end of illnesses or viruses?

Hello!  I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes.  Typically blood sugars will rise prior to the symptoms of the sickness showing up, but having them come up in the middle or at the end isn't unusual.  It could just mean that while she's feeling better, the illnesss still isn't quite done in her system.  Hope she gets better soon!  (and make sure you treat those ketones!)
