severe headaches

by yellow flowers, Jun 23, 2007 12:00AM
hi im 20yrs old and i have been on cycloprogenova ( a menstrual cycle drug that regulates menstruation) for over a year now. i also suffered from severe weight loss almost anorexia during my first year in college and thats what lead me to take the menstrual pills. thankfully right now i have restored my weight and im now 56 kilos and my hight is 5ft 7in so i think im ok. my problwm nowis the severe headaches i get if i stand up ad then it doesnt disappear. with every heart beat( which i can feel realy strong) a severe sharp pain hits my brain and then disappears. it also hits my eyes with  unberable pain. it also gets worse when the pain becomes with every movve of my head, the my eyes if my head is fixed and im sitting, and when i talk. i realy do underwstand whats going on. the pain in my head makes me feel i have a sweeling in my brain or ssomething i realy dont know.previously about two months ago i experienced the same symptoms but when i eat something it gets better for a 3 to 4 hours. right now even if i eat sugar nothi8ng happens the  pain is ewxactly the same. i would also like to add that many of my mothers family are diabetic. can you please diagnose my case, thankyou for your time.

We are not doctors, but are either long-time type 1 diabetic people or parents of type 1 diabetic children, and therefore cannot make diagnostic comments. And you wouldn't want this anyway, for no online doctor should diagnose based only on a description written on the web.

That being said, though, maybe we can offer some suggestions to help you. If I were in your shoes, I DEFINITELY would make an appointment with my doctor to check the symptoms. Scary things like brain tumor should be ruled out when headaches are  ongoing. But many things can cause headaches, and so tests should be run. Some things come to mind immediately...

Some medications can make you more prone to hypoglycemia, and some of your symptoms COULD be caused by low blood sugar. The pounding heart and headache both are sometimes symptoms of low blood sugar. So you may want to ask your doctor to run tests for glucose tolerance, and blood sugar levels, but also perhaps to check out blood pressure. Low blood pressure can have similar symptoms but usually causes dizziness when you stand up. Hormonal imbalances in women can really cause a lot of these kind of symptoms, so this could just be a side effect of the hormonal changes that this medication is having on your body. You really do need to make an appointment with your doctor and talk about all of these things. Head pain is something that you need to have checked out quickly just to rule out dangerous problems. I hope it is just reaction to the medication and that a change in medication will solve the problem. We do wish you the very best.
