sometimes forget Novalog

sometimes forget Novalog

I'm a 74 yr old male, Type II, taking 10-13 units Lantus in a.m., and 12-15 units Novalog before my big meal of the day (somtimes at noon, usually about 7:00 pm).

Sometimes I forget the Novalog which I was told to take only BEFORE eating.  What are the dangers/complications of taking Novalog right AFTER eating?

Hi,
That's a question you really need to ask your doctor-- we can't be giving out dosage advice. All I can say is that I would presume it's better to take it after a meal than not at all, because it will bring your blood sugar down after a big meal, and without the Novalog it would presumably spike up. But my experience is with type 1, not type 2, and I don't know if there are issues/risks there. For a type 1 would assume it's better to take after than not at all, but I don't know about type 2.

Good luck with it!

From my personal experience with insulin. If you take insulin after you eat it will usually make your sugar drop. If you drop too low, then you go into insulin shock and alot of the time when that happens you are dependant. I black out alot if my sugar goes low and I need help to get me back in good control. Write a note on your fridge or evan your hand if you forget that much to take you insulin.
