should my 10 year old son take his novalog injections before or after meals?

This is a question that you should really be asking his doctor.  As for most people who take shots you are to give them before meals and then eat to the insulin given, if you give them after a meal you are then taking the insulin to the food consumed.  This is how those on a pump do it.  Again please speak with his doctor about this, because only the doctor would be able to tell you the proper time to give him the shots.
