ADA LAWS and Police misconduct

I am a TI and on insulin. I was just diagnosed when I was 40 and now a couple of years into my treatment. Recently I was detained by the police for something non violent and it just so happened they arrested me just after I had my morning shot. I Had not eaten yet. I informed them of my medical condition and told them I would need some food or my BaC would get too low. After a couple of hours when I started showing signs of LBS they offered me a muffin but wouldn't take my handcuffs off. While in the back of a patrol car ( for over two hours) They held it out in a container and made me shove my face in to try and take a few bites. Kind of cruel and embarrassing. It was a horrible experience. Is this a violation of my civil rights? Can they treat us like dogs?

I suggest you contact your local bar association and request the name of an attorney who will take the case on as a tort action without charge to you. Do not discuss the case with anyone, especially on the internet.

For the record this has nothing to do with disability law. All police departments have what is called "The Patrol Guide", which is issued to officers and not generally available to the public. In every guide I know of, a prisoner who states they are diabetic and are having medical issues MUST be transported to the closest hospital or an EMS crew summoned. Immediately.
