Bluish discoloration

What would cause my insulin pump tubing to turn a bluish/purple gray color? I recently started taking a kelp(iodine) supplement. Tubing is usually in contact with my skin.

Hello,
Most likely this blue purple discoloration is due to the iodine supplements that you are taking. Stop taking the supplements for a few days and check the color. If it remains the same then any infection or growth of bacteria/ fungus should be ruled out.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

My daughter is using the Mio tubing set by Medtronic.  This morning we noticed that about six inches of tubing at the end connected to the insertion site have turned a very dark blue/ black / gray.  I wiped the tubing with an alcohol swab and nothing came off.  The insulin is still clear.  I can only conclude that the color is embedded into the tubing itself.  We just bought new clothing for school, perhaps the tubing is picking up clothing dye.  I called Medtronic and they are sending a canister that is pre-paid so they can see it for themselves.

Did you get a result from medtronic?  My wife just noticed the very same thing, but also just wore a new shirt with it today.

This just happened to me as well. I have not worn new clothing in a while, so I have no idea what this is from. Has anybody heard from a medical professional as to why this could happen?
